What is Eikon?

EIKON

Eikon provides historical financial information with over 35 million individual instruments or indicators across all major asset classes, including 8.5 million active economic indicators. It features 65 years of data, across 175 countries – providing statistical information you need to interpret market trends, economic cycles, and the impact of world events.

Unique content includes, Worldscope Fundamentals Point in Time data, and Reuters Polls. Data spans bond indices, bonds, commodities, convertibles, credit default swaps, derivatives, economics, energy, equities, equity indices, ESG, estimates, exchange rates, fixed income, funds, fundamentals, interest rates, and investment trusts..

How to access EIKON?

EIKON is available via the web.  

You will need to contact the Library Enquiries Team for the user ID and password.

You can access support with Eikon in three ways 

 

Within Eikon: help with the current page

Eikon includes help pages for each function.

  1. At the top-right of the page, click on the '☰' menu icon then 'Help'.
  2. A help page will load in a new tab, relevant to the function you were using.

 

On the Refinitiv website: webinars

There are scheduled live webinars available from Refinitiv Academy. These sessions cover various products including Eikon, Datastream and Tick History. They are recorded so you can view them afterwards.

When watching the training videos, remember that the University does not have access to all of the features demonstrated in our academic licence. These videos were made for Eikon Desktop, there may be slight differences when using Eikon Web.

 

EIKON Certification

As an Aston University student you can undertake Eikon Certification for free. The tutorials and exam are both online and can be taken anywhere at any time. There are 32 tutorials in total which cover:

  • Getting started
  • Price & news discovery
  • Charting
  • Collaborating
  • Social sentiment
  • Analysing data in Microsoft Office
  • Markets

It will take around 10 hours to complete all the tutorials.

The exam takes the form of an online 60 minute multiple-choice questionnaire. In total there are 30 questions and you will need a pass mark of 80% or higher to pass. However, if you don’t pass on your first attempt you can have one additional attempt. Additional attempts do not need to be taken immediately.

To start the examination go to the Refinitiv Eikon certification webpage and select ‘Ready to take the certification?’ from the left hand menu. This will send you an email with a token and link to begin the exam.

Once you have clicked the link in your email you will be given 60 minutes to complete all 30 exam questions. If you achieve a pass of 80 per cent or more, there will be a link to your PDF certificate.
