What is Bloomberg?

Bloomberg Professional is a leading source of detailed market data, news and analytics that is used in trading markets and financial institutions globally. Content includes current (real-time) and historical financial data on currencies and commodities, individual equities, stock market indices, fixed-income securities, and futures for both international and domestic markets.

Where are the Bloomberg terminals?

Aston Business School
The main location for the Bloomberg terminals is in the Business School trading room Main Building, Room 477.  The requires swipe access via your UNIcard.  Access is guaranteed to ABS MSc students on financial programmes that have received training on this database.  All other students will need to speak to their supervisor to request access.

 

Aston University Library
There are two Bloomberg terminals in the Library Building.  Each terminal is recognisable by the Bloomberg keyboard.

  • Ground Floor Computer Lab (the terminal is on the first row next to the window)
  • First floor computer by the Library offices. 

The first floor terminal can be booked online to guarantee access to Boomberg.  You can book for two hours at a time.

For schools with 3+ billable terminals we have extended the free access to sign up for BMC. This means an unlimited number students can sign up to complete BMC in their own time via web access. From the sign up date you have 1 year to complete BMC. Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) is an 8 hour self-paced e-learning course that provides a visual introduction to capital markets. BMC is recognized world wide, and will signal to prospective employers that you have attained a high level of competency in using the Bloomberg Professional Service as well as optimize job performance.

The BMC course consists of 4 modules:

  • Economics,
  • Currencies,
  • Fixed Income,
  • and Equities.

In order to receive your Acknowledgement of Completion, take and pass, with 75% or better, the core exam as well as at least one market sector exam.  You may retake each exam one time.

<GO> is equivalent to ENTER and should follow every function / command to
activate a page.

Menu takes you to the previous screen.
Scroll back within a screen that contains multiple pages.
Scroll forward within a screen that contains multiple pages EX-To move from page 2 to page 15, type 13 and press <Page Fwd>
Manually type LAST to review the last 8 functions used.
Press print once to print the current page.
# is the number of pages you wish to print. So, if this is a 5 page function press 5 and Print.
Press <Help> key once to display the online Help and description of how to use the current function.
Press <Help> key twice to instant message the 24 hour Bloomberg Help Desk.
