Information about the project

We are currently upgrading our Library Management system (LMS). This software allows us to keep track of our print materials, which ones are on the shelves and on loan. We use it to keep track of library user accounts where you will find information about what you’ve got on loan and where you would renew. We also use it to purchase new resources and create records so they can be found and made available on our discovery system and through reading lists.

This new system will provide:

  • improved usability with mobile devices
  • access to the full collection (digital and print) including all databases via one system
  • enhanced search capabilities
  • improved analytics to ensure staff and students have access to the resources they need

Over the coming months we will be implementing and testing the system in preparation to go live on Wednesday 2 August 2023.

Key dates for your diaries

17 May - 2 August: Self service machine and Lapsafe unit on 2nd floor will be unavailable for use.

19 July - 2 August:  The ground floor Lapsafe units will be unavailable for use.

31 July - 2 August: Borrowing will not be possible in the last few days before we go live, if there is something you need speak to a member of staff. Returned books will be returned after 2 August

2 August 2023: Go live with the new system

How you can help

Books on loan: If you have borrowed any books and no longer need them return them to the library to help with the transfer of data from our old system into the new.

Saved references on SmartSearch: If you have saved references on Library Search export them to a reference management software such as endnote or as an excel file
