When the item arrives

Journal articles/book chapters: Most will arrive in an electronic format, and an email will be sent to you containing a link to download the item.
Please read the instructions carefully as there is only one opportunity to print the document, although you should have online access for 3 years on any device. Please also see the section on Accessing documents

Books / theses: a notification email will be sent to you when the item arrives - collection is from  the Library Help desk. Please note that some items are
 
Reference Only and cannot be taken out of the Library building - these conditions are imposed by the lending library and we must adhere to them

Important advice on accessing electronic items

British library are now sending unencrypted links to articles they supply

If you do experience any problems the first time you try to access a document via this system, or are just unsure what to do, the following points should help.

  • British Library requires you to log in to access your document. In order to do this you must be registered with On Demand.
  • You should have Adobe Reader 10 or higher on your machine. If you are a staff member with Adobe Professional installed on your PC you may experience difficulties downloading the document, please contact Inter-library Loans staff for advice before clicking on the link
  • If you use Google Chrome you should disable the browser by typing chrome://plugins in the address bar then scroll down to Chrome PDF viewer and click on disable. Alternatively use Firefox/IE.
