New Students: Joining the Library

What do I need to do?

Nothing! You automatically become a member of the Library as soon as you start at Aston University.  You will need your uniCARD to enter the building, so make sure you always have it with you.

What does the Library have to offer?

A first year undergraduate can borrow 20 items at any one time.  Taught postgraduates can borrow up to 25 items and research postgraduates can borrow 35 items.

The library has thousands of eBooks and electronic journals that you can access from anywhere - not just on campus! You can also borrow a laptop, or just come here to study with your own device.

What can I do in the Library?

There are all sorts of spaces in the Library to suit your mood.  Whether you want to work quietly by yourself upstairs, study with a friend or relax on the sofas with a cuppa on the ground floor, we are sure that you will find something you like.

There are also computers spread all around the building, as well as printers and photocopiers.

I do not have an uniCARD?

You will not be allowed in the Library Building without an uniCARD.  if you have forgotten your uniCARD you will need to retrieve it before entering University Buildings.  If you need a new uniCARD then you can request a new uniCARD via SOLVE.

Do I need a face covering?

Wearing a face covering is now a personal choice. For the safety of our community we recommend that you wear one in crowded spaces.

Do I need to clean my workstation in the Library?

This is a personal choice. There are surface sanitisers attached to the walls around the building.  You will also find supplies of paper towels available to help clean down your workstations.

Should I bring hand sanitiser?

There are hand sanitisers attached to the walls around the building.  You can also bring your own.
