Help Before Hand In is a week long series of information advice sessions to support Aston student assignments. Each session is delivered by an information specialist and is free to attend. 

The following series of sessions will be held during Week 10 (26th-30th November):

  • Advanced Literature Searching
  • How to Read a Journal Article
  • OSCOLA Referencing
  • Don’t Panic! – It’s a Business and Law student drop-in! ‚Äč"Bring along your last minute questions on finding evidence for your assessment, referencing or just general help with sourcing the right material"

All of the below sessions will be held in the library in one of the library workshops on the 2nd floor (L215 or L216)

If you would like to attend one on the sessions you can just drop-in if you're free, or you can book a place in advance using the link below. 

If you are unavailable to make the timetables session but have any questions please contact library@aston.ac.uk or contact the information specialist for your school directly.

Are you having difficulty finding good quality academic sources to use in your assignments? This session will help you develop an efficient search strategy for use with SmartSearch and other databases and sources of information. We will cover:

• Decide where to find the best research

• Think about keywords

• Devise a search strategy that works

• Start finding resources you’ll use

• Know where else to go for help

How to Read a journal Article

Do you look at a journal article and don’t know where to start? Reading journal articles can be challenging as they’re written in an unfamiliar style about subjects that you’re just getting to grips with. 

This workshop is designed as an introduction to reading and understanding journal articles, covering effective tips and strategies that can help you find your way in and understand a journal article.
