Research Bites 2021

Research Bites are short, informal seminars on topics relevant to researchers at all levels, run by Library Services. The aim is to deliver useful information, start discussions and answer questions for the benefit of anyone conducting research at Aston University. Whether you want a quick refresher on a single topic or a comprehensive updating of your information and research skills, you will find something for you.

Session 3: Introduction to Grey literature

A short introduction to what grey literature is and how to use online and Aston resources to locate it. Presented by Richard Hopkins, information specialist for Social Sciences and Humanities. Delivered by Richard Hopkins, Information Specialist, Library Services.

Session 1: Systematic literature review

Are you interested in finding out more on how to approach a systematic literature review? This session will cover the pivotal early stages of the process, focusing on how to get started, defining the all-important scope and then beginning the systematic literature search. Session 4: Ethos: finding UK theses

An introduction to the Ethos platform to help you find and access UK doctoral theses in fulltext.  The session will look at the benefits Ethos could offer as part of the research process, focus on how to navigate the platform and include search tips. Delivered by Kerstin Treder, Information Specialist, Library Services

Session 2: Finding Research literature via Scopus

This session will cover using Scopus to find peer reviewed literature, identify related documents, track citations over time and identify subject experts in your field. Delivered by Nicola Dennis, Information Specialist, Library Services.

Session 5: Web of Science

Web of Science has a range of highly effective features to help researchers find and keep on top of relevant research. In this session we will begin by looking at advanced search, before covering a range of tools that make use of the linked cited references, so you can get more from this multidisciplinary research tool. delivered by Andy Doyle, Information Specialist, Library Services.
