UK Data Archive: Research Data Management (13 August 2015)

Veerle Van den Eynden, Producer Relations & Research Data Manager at the UK Data Archive, visited Aston to deliver one-day training around data management, data management planning and data sharing, in order to promote good data practices in research and to optimise data sharing opportunities.

Morning session

  • Introduction, data policy landscape (ESRC and other funders, publishers), data sharing
  • Legal and ethical issues in handling and sharing data in research with human participants, incl. informed consent and anonymization
  • Data annotation and documentation, and preparing data for sharing

Afternoon session

  • Hands-on exercises on consent for data sharing and anonymization of quantitative and qualitative data [not included in Aston Replay recording]
  • Writing and implementing a data management plan
  • Hands-on exercises on preparing and submitting data to the UK Data Service ReShare repository (for ESRC data)
