Biomedical Engineering: Specialist Data

Why use theses?

A thesis is a substantial document presenting the author's research and findings, submitted in support of candidature for an academic degree.  You may wish to find relevant theses

  • to read about research in more detail than the word-limit of a journal article allows
  • when your topic is not well covered by the journal article literature
  • to see an example of what is required for your own submission
  • where you have a reference to a thesis

Why use patents?

A patent is a document which gives the owner the right to prevent others from making, using, importing or selling a new invention without permission.  The patent document itself contains full details of the invention (e.g. how it works, what it does, how it does it, what it is made of, how it is made) and patents are therefore an excellent source of information on

  • new technology
  • trends in technological development
  • specific products or innovations
